I monitored two topics in the TextDB dicussion forum but was de-monitored from one when it received a reply.
Is it possible to have it so that it keeps monitoring the topic but if a reply has been received it asks you whether you want to stop monitoring it? It's a pain replying to the reply and then having to remember to click on monitor again. myUPB Developer |

Well... I intentionally made it like that, or else on larger forums, everytime someone replied, everyone would retrieve a copy of the reply, so it's be sending out way to many e-mails. For example, If I made a topic, and ten people monitors it, then there are 20 posts in one night, each person gets 20 e-mails next morning, and the server sends out 200 e-mails, when 20 e-mails would have worked.
Never fear, I (or Tim, I'm not sure who.. lol) added a option to newpost.php (in the next version), so when you post a reply, you can just check the option to monitor it, saving you a couple of clicks. That's the best I can do. I don't really want 200 e-mails being sent out when 10% of that will do. --Jerroyd Moore

What about a user monitors a topic. The first time someone posts a reply it tells them that one or more replies have been left and will only send them another email if they post another reply. If they don't they won't get anymore emails or just send one email like this every 24 hours if a reply has been posted in the last 24 hours.

Like I said, in the next version, you can checkmark a box to monitor a topic when you reply, so it's not really different from what you just said, except the 24 hours thing, which would be harder to do, because you never know if there are users on in 24 hours (to run the script)...

I meant topic monitoring as in subscribing to a topic and receiving email notification every time a new post is made in a thread you have posted or subscribed to.

no at far as im aware, you dont currently recive e-mails for pms either so i dont think so. what your after has been implemented in rss feeds so i would suggest using them and see if they are suitable but atm there is no option to recive a e-mail to ur inbox after someone has posted in ur thread.

Its funny, we keep looking at this feature and fiddling but never actually get it working and staying that way. A large amount of the code was in there at some point, its just a matter of getting it to actually go (I have tried unsuccessfully in the past to achieve this)
From memory the code for actually sending the notifications is in place, but actually managing who gets the e-mails currently isn't implemented. I like the idea of receiving e-mail notifications for PMs though, might make a nice option in a later version (global setting by the admin, then down to individual user preference) ![]() Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA Messaging) Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP XP) SDI Help Desk Analyst (SDI HDA) CompTIA A+ Certified Technician (A+) |
