If you had a problem with a "Search Topic" button appearing out of place, redownload the file in the post above.

A couple of questions:

(1) on the notification email, could you advise how I put a "Dear User" at the start of the email so that it becomes personalised;

(2) Is there a way for admin to turn the monitoring feature on for forum members, so that I can kick start the monitoring feature?

Any thoughts on these?  Can this text be used to notify you when you get a PM?

Now that the email notification for topic monitoring is working I would like to propose some future mods:

(1) implement the same email notification when you receive a PM;
(2) move the topic monitoring switch to the foot of the posting box as a radio or tick button just above or below the “submit” and “advanced” buttons;
(3) have the default set to ‘Monitor’ for all threads that a user posts in;
(4) allow in the userCP for users to enable or disable the default monitoring status;
(5) Allow in the Admin panel for administrators to switch between (i) no monitoring, (ii) email notification for all posts, (iii) one email notification until user re-vists the monitored thread.

General question: does the screen have to go through the greem confirmation screen when you click monitor topic?

For me point (3) is the most interesting as it would drive forum activity levels which would have the compound effect of getting more members.....

In answer to your question....

Yes it does, because clicking on watch or unwatch goes to managetopic.php which processes the subscription status and then redirects you back to viewtopic.php

Thanks Clark -

The reason I asked was that I was wondering if it the database process could go on in the background while the screen remained on the thread....It was only a thought.

My topic monitoring function seems to have stopped working.  I have test posted in a few forums Im monitoring and the emails are no longer arriving.

Any thoughts?

Well, I received the monitor alert here which indicates at least the one here still works. The problem is that there is a whole bunch of places that this could go wrong, and not really a massively easy way to test it.

1) Have you confirmed that the forum thinks you want the topic watched (the button says "Un-Watch").
2) Do new registration emails still come through?
3) Is it affecting all topics, or only specific ones?

If you're having problems with topic monitoring, be sure to post it in the right forum, as this forum is only limited to suggestions for UPB.

I agree with you pete917, that the monitoring functionality needs to be expended, only it's not at the top of the list of things to do right now ^_^;;

hm...

Seems the problem has gpne away and the monitoring function working again.  I had a problem with the host server and have been migrated onto a new server.  Since the migration all is working well again.

Thnx anyway guys.
